Hey Y’all!
The blog, Sweet Tea and Taters, brings southern hospitality to the masses, offering readers not just recipes and etiquette, but a lifestyle that is common to those living below the Mason-Dixon line. This lifestyle is characterized by an attitude of kindness, graciousness, friendly conversations, warm greetings, and delicious food. The name of the blog came from two southern staples; sweet tea, which is an integral part of any southern meal, and taters, which are a staple side item, whether fried, mashed, scalloped, or baked.
Drawing from my roots, I share southern recipes, many of which have been in my family for generations, as well as others that are perfect for entertaining and embracing the lifestyle of southern hospitality. I also incorporate my love of etiquette into the blog in the “Dear Southern Miss” portion of my blog. In this section of the blog, I respond to readers questions about food, ingredients, entertaining, proper dinner etiquette, and how to embrace southern living, wherever you might live.
I was born and raised in Texas, and left home at the age of 18 to go to school in California. Little did I know that my days of living in the south were over and life would continue to take me all over the country. From California I moved to Chicago and from Chicago to Philadelphia.
I have a Master’s Degree in Teaching and taught kindergarten while living in Chicago for two years. Since my recent move to the east coast, teaching jobs have been hard to come by. So, I turn to my love of cooking to start down this new path. The blogging world is all new to me so I took a food blogging class in New York City at the French Culinary Institute to learn how the heck people do this stuff!! I learned quite a bit about the world wide web, and while I know this blog is always a work in progress, I’m having a lot of fun with this new venture!
I hope y’all enjoy Sweet Tea and Taters. Every post is written with lots of love, a couple sticks of butter, and a dash of southern charm! 🙂
